Sayid, a twenty-four year-old Syrian refugee, arrived in the United States less than ten days in the past after finally being authorized for entry. Sayid and his cousin Nizar had been on a waiting checklist for greater than a 12 months. The cousins fled the Syrian metropolis of al-Raqqa in early 2014, leaving behind more than a dozen members of the family who, on the time, believed an end to the brutal civil warfare, which has engulfed the country since 2011, was on the horizon.
Sayid stated it’s unlikely his family will have the ability to come to the U.S. anytime soon. But, he said, he’s sending them “a pair million dollars” to assist out. “I hope they’ll use it to safely get out of Syria,” Sayid said.

“We’ve jobs, we are college students, we have households. Just like you, we need to have a very good life. But due to Assad and the Islamic State, we can’t have that in Syria.”
In response to Tennessee lottery officials, Sayid has opted to obtain his winnings, totaling $312 million, in one lump sum.
